Today Is The Pits!

Today is the pits! I woke up to a lot of back and hip pain which was expected after the SI injection yesterday. What was a surprise were the episodes of what I think are hypoglycemia I am experiencing today. I am going to just put my feet up and lie low for awhile and hope things settle down. I hate the darn steroids that they pump into you with these injections. I know that the MD's claim that you do not have a systemic reaction to them when they are injected into a particular area but I am beginning to have my doubts about that. I am going to do some more research when I feel better to see how much correlation there is between these episodes and steroid medications.
I would really like to hear from anyone who has experienced this in the past or has insight in these issues!

Dear Kim - This is the background of my pain. I've been dealing with chronic low back pain for 21 years now - the first 18 were the hardest! I found a chiropractor who doesn't beat me up like the other 5 did he passively exercises my pelvic area on a special table along with gentle manipulation and adjusting. At first I went 3x a week for a few weeks then 2x a week, then once a week - now I go about lx a month - inbetween, I try to stay flexible with some stretches each day and I walk 20 minutes 3x a week and recently started strength training of my upper body to help with my weight. I've had great success with this chiro. I have had a few bouts with sciatica even while seeing this chiro - this requires immediate antiinflammitories - I take 2 advil every 6 hrs for about 3 doses and it usually simmers it down. Some of these attacks had me on the floor I was in such pain! 13 years ago I found a surgeon at The Spinecenter out of Phila. Pa - they give you a nerve block and while asleep under a C camera, inject the steroids - you go back every 3 weeks for 3 times and the pain was controlled for a year the first time, only a few months the second time, and not at all the third time. Recently I had severe pain over a 3 month period and went to pain management - it was such a bad experience, I'll never go again. The doctor injected me twice and it hurt so bad, and when he was done, the nurse told me to get off the table - I though she was joking - I was in tears. She slid me off onto a chair which was worst - they sent me home that way in dire pain - twice as bad as the pain I had when I came. The next morning I called the Pain Center and told them they had to give me something, I couldn't move! The drug numbed me and within a week the pain let up and I vowed never to return to a Pain Management Center again! Most of my pain is on the right side - after that episode, the pain is now on my left side! The right side is pretty good, but I have to learn now how to deal with what that doctor caused! No more pain management for me! About 6-8 years ago, I went to a clinic where a retired surgeon administered injections of what is called prolo therapy. I found the book that described my pain and a solution, at Barnes & Noble called Prolo your back pain away by Ross A Hauser, MD and Marion A Hauser, MS, RD. I phoned them in Chicago and got the names of Drs. in my area and chose one about 40 miles away. I went evry Tuesday for about 3 months, it wasn't covered by my medical plan, it was out of pocket but I think he helped me greatly. The stuff he put in was to nourish the area around the lower discs where my pain was.
Hope this helps someone. Back pain is no laughing matter - I have a husband who massages my back every night before I go to sleep and every morning, I put ice on it and when it doesn't hurt I put some heat on to limber it up. My present pain is livable! Somedays I'm almost pain free, others, I just need to pamper myself a little more.
Sincerely
Dianne

I am so sorry you had a bad experience with pain management. It seems that bad experiences with medical care are more the norm these days instead of the exception and I feel that is a real SHAME! I am really standing firm about taking more control of my care as this is my body and my pain, not the Dr's or the nurses! It is my cross to bear and I should be able to participate in how I want to treat it. I hope that you continue to do well with your chiro. I know I had to really hunt to find someone that was a chiro that would do soft tissue work and help me, not just do the typical "crack em and stack em" as we fondly called it.
That does not seem to help me anymore, unfortunately. I got a call back from the clinic and the Doc wants to go ahead and do my third injection on the 17th of this month. So here I go again! I hope they get it right this time!
Hang in there Dianne and let me know how you are doing!

This might be something useful.

"Earthing" is showing incredible promise as one of the most significant advances in the treatment of both acute and chronic inflammatory conditions, as demonstrated using medical infrared imaging (thermography).
